The Year...

Comixpedia has two pieces this week which flatter me greatly, but the one really worth your time is the year in review. Erik Meleander mentions The History, OhNoRobot and Clickwheel and actually covers pretty much everything else I think is important.

My probable best quote in the piece concerns the "boys kissing in the Newsbox" controversy that rocked Keenspot back in 1967, wait, I mean March 2005:

"The Newsbox debate wasn't really about Boy Meets Boy," said T Campbell, "it was about webcartoonists waking up and realizing they didn't all share the same values. I don't think that lesson has really sunk in yet."

Comments:
Yes! Exactly! I recently went back and read the original Websnark thread in question - the one Eric Burns later admits he was wrong - and in that one and the latter I couldn't help but get that there was an underlying vibe in the discussion of "If you don't agree with me, you're at best an idiot and at worst a bigot." It was if no one could comprehend that on the issue of gay rights there was more than one side, their side. And in the apology thread it was the error about the Newsbox that was being addressed but not the actual "gay" topic that set everyone off. In the end you had moralists verses businessmen who approached the issue from two wildly different viewpoints.
