A Puzzle For Longtime Readers

At this point I've lost count of how many stories I've written. I got to thinking about closing lines after seeing King Kong, which is scrupulously faithful to the original final line. Though I think it suffers a bit by having Jack Black deliver it rather than Fay Wray, as was Peter Jackson's original plan. Better to have Jack listen solemnly as someone else uses his showman's language. But I digress.

At this point I've published a LOT of stories. Depends a little on how you count (some of FANS's stories blurred together into big meta-stories and some are in the process of being published). If you're charitable, it's 60 for FANS (including the KNIGHTS OF THE DINNER TABLE crossover), 12 for PENNY AND AGGIE, 6 for RIP & TERI, 5 for COOL CAT STUDIO (not counting the unfinished ART & LOVE), 4 for GAMING GUARDIANS/GUARDIANS (often in collaboration with Graveyard Greg) and 6 others (let's just call SEARCH ENGINE FUNNIES 1.0 all one story-ish thing). And there's one more "other" coming tomorrow, so make it 6 others. So... 93. Wow.

To those of you who follow my work closely, how many of these last lines from those stories (my favorites) can you identify?

Let me know how you like this. It might inspire a Clickwheel feature, albeit one a bit less egocentric.

"...crawling back to me someday. And then... I'll make him feel pain like no one ever has... or l-love him forever. I could go either way."

"...the final frontier..."

"Actions speak more loudly."

"Anybody up for some Tenshi DVDs? Just askin'..."

"Be afraid of me."

"Be one."

"Besides us."

"Doesn't she know what she's missing?"

"Dreaming never dies."

"Gotta go... this reunion’s a few people short. I gotta call my mom, and my bro... and my boyfriend. "

"He confiscated my dice."

"I hoped I would find explorers here, people who wondered at life's latest offerings, people who broke out of the boxes assigned to them... people who liked to play... 'outside.'"

"I made his lame script work and I can do the same for yours!"

"I would like the same, please."

"It just pinches a little."

"It's been us ever since Adam and Eve."

"It's only a 'question' in the grammatical sense."

"Liar."

"Now get out, I've got work to do."

"Oh, sorry. Did I step on your line?"

"She got that from you."

"Talk dirty t'me?"

"That's just gay."

"That's just your jogger's dumbbell to bear."

"The flowers are all dead."

"The keys on the board feel like a kiss on the cheek. It's morning."

"We all have our secrets."

"With people, you're never sure."

"You did, son. You did."

"You're pregnant."

Comments:
For a bunch of these, I remember the scene very clearly but am not quite sure what storyline it followed... Most of the ones I know are from Fans.

"Anybody up for some Tenshi DVDs? Just askin'..."
Tim, "Times of War."

"Besides us."
The chapter where Will's father is released from prison.

"Dreaming never dies."
The short sidestory that just finished.

"I would like the same, please."
Rumy, the anti-cupid chapter.

"It's only a 'question' in the grammatical sense."
Teri, but I have no idea what chapter.

"The flowers are all dead."
Will, "The Cruelest Month"

"It just pinches a little."
Muller, the vampires in Atlanta

"Talk dirty t'me?"
Alisin, the Sean chapter

Ones from Fans which I feel like I'd know if I just thought longer:
"Oh, sorry. Did I step on your line?" - Katherine
"That's just your jogger's dumbbell to bear." - to Will
"You did, son. You did." - Jones

A few...

"That's just your jogger's dumbbell to bear." Full Circle, Fans

"Actions speak more loudly." Art of Seduction, Rip & Teri

"Be afraid of me." Escapism, Fans

"...the final frontier..." The Ways the World Ends, Fans

"I hoped I would find explorers here, people who wondered at life's latest offerings, people who broke out of the boxes assigned to them... people who liked to play... 'outside.'" Otaku, Fans

"Doesn't she know what she's missing?" Roomie, Fans

I can't add any of my own (the ones I knew have been covered), but I can fill in the gaps for Dan. Kath has just finished Rikk's sentence at the end of the Hyperman story, and Jones' line is the conclusion of The Peacemakers. ("...we'll make you wish we had destroyed the FIB." "You did, son. You did.")

- Z

"The keys on the board feel like a kiss on the cheek. It's morning." I think that's gotta be The Sluggite Koan.

"Anybody up for some Tenshi DVDs? Just askin'..." Let Darkness Fall, Fans

I could place about half of these as "Fans", but I could get the storyline on only a few. So I put on the Archivist hat and searched my records. I had to resort to the OhNoRobot once, but only one has eluded me: it could be a Guardians story, as I don't follow those, or Pop Star which I didn't manage to archive.

Incidentally, I can only find 2 in Cool Cat Studio, Free Spirits and L'Agence VADO. Do you split these up into episodes, or are there more?

T, I can't place these lines, but I can give you my favorite line that you have written:

"My name is Shanna Ericsson."

I will always love that line. It moved me almost to tears. You are a good writer, T.

If I remember correctly, Fay Raye (probably getting the name wrong, sorry) died before they could shoot the scene with the "beauty is what killed the beast" line. Which is a real shame.

At least they didn't digitalize her in to do the line. ;)
