Slow Day. Let's See What Google News Turns Up...

Mitch Clem's long-term efforts on behalf of O Pioneers! appear to be bearing fruit. Tip for new musical acts: befriend a cartoonist today!

I admit I've only skimmed True Loves, but after seeing the preview I'm intrighed by its launch.

Missed it: Article from The Korean Herald on Korean attempts to get noticed in the English-centered, already-crowded webcomics-to-print market.

So this is what Dave Rigley left Search Engine Funnies to do! Congrats, man. Seriously.

Kind of pathetic, really: Komikwerks thinks it's news that it has automated blogs now. I'd like to thank Ian J. again for showing me how to integrate Blogger into my comics system. THREE YEARS AGO.

It's Flight, and that's all I need to know: Previews here and here.

I gotta love Rich's advice in Point 9 of the E3 Survival Guide. Yeah, get your Penny and Aggie shirt now... oh, wait, we don't sell them yet.

Comments:
Clearly slow days should have up to 12 hours notice. :)

You're no longer postin "in anger" but instead "in condescension."

I'm a MOdern Tales reader myself, but at least Komikwerks didn't announce a big, super-sensational, boffo grand retooling of its site, months ago, never to deliver.

"Blogwerks adds the popular phenomena of blogging to the site, with blogs dedicated to each of its numerous online comic strips."

The term "popular phenomena" (as if it's some just-discovered contraption) is amusing, but has Modern Tales, Graphic Smash or any of the other portals provided logs dedicated to each of its strips?

If not, it looks pretty silly to potshot another site for providing something your own sites cannot.

You're absolutely right about that: Modern Tales did announce a boffo grand retooling that it hasn't yet delivered, and it should probably get more flak from that than it does.

This isn't the first time Joey Manley has promised Grand Things within a few weeks, and then spent months trying to code them to perfection. Joey is my employer and my friend, but I think this tendency of his has harmed his business, and as a friend, I worry.

Several of the strips on Graphic Smash have embedded IFRAME blogs. There are many tools on the Web that provide the ability to blog completely free of charge. The only difference between these and Komikwerks as far as I can see is that Komikwerks' blogging software is integrated into the Komikwerks site, and this difference doesn't really benefit the user, it benefits the Komikwerks brand.

It's a good move, sure, but it's like announcing "we now have ads on our site" or "we now design for a higher resolution." Is this really newsworthy?

Clickwheel's made all kinds of little improvements but I ask them to save the grand announcements for the big stuff, and I ask them to save it for when that big stuff is here, not when it's planned.

We learn...

I'm afraid you're right about this. In all liklihood the reason the site has gotten so little "flak" is that readers suspect this retooling is nothing special, and worse few people really care any more.

"It's a good move, sure, but it's like announcing "we now have ads on our site" or "we now design for a higher resolution." Is this really newsworthy?"

No it's probably not newsworthy but what it is is promotion-worthy. I doubt they think it's legit news but they're taking the opportunity to promote their site. It's probably up to Comics Resources to filter out what they feel isn't newsworthy or of little value to their readers.

That's an awfully cynical take on the news cycle and press releases, but it may be accurate.

Which makes the matter pathetic for a different reason altogether.
